Bastos may be the best restaurant on the island which is saying a lot because everywhere ate was amazing! The owner and his family are friendly and fun! The food was knock your socks off great. Bastos Grill is a must go to spot on the island. Don't miss this place!!!!

Kind of hard to find but so worth it! Bastos Grill is definitely not in a tourist area but so worth the effort to find it This is a small Mom and Pop kind of place that has two or three tables outside and 5 or 6 inside. We got here on a Monday night of Easter week (very busy time on Isla) We had 9 in our group and were told it might take a while for a table for 9. No problem...............the piano bar that others complain about thats across the road because it's too loud was a blast! It is called Don Rutys and is an absolute bargain. $1 US beer and $2 tequila shots. Big time locals hangout that should not be missed! Back to Bastos. We were seated and the deliciousness soon began. 3 baskets of chips with 3 different types of salsa for each basket. We heard the Arrachera steak was incredible and it did not disappoint! All 9 of us had either arrachera fajitas, steak, burritos or skewers. I had the steak and it was the tenderest and most flavorful I have ever eaten! It was incredible until I tried a piece from my wifes skewer. This was even better- big chunks grilled with veggies and oh so flavorful. I would do anything to get the marinade/recipe to get this cheap cut of meat so tender and flavorful. All 9 of us raved about it!
We liked our meals so much we all came back on Thursday only to find it closed! Closed on Thursday but OK now we get to have a beer and shot at Don Rutys!
We did come back on Saturday night and had the Arrachera skewers again and they were even better! Slightly charred on the outside and medium rare on the inside! Heavenly! They had a 8 or 9 near old boy seating guests and he was the cutest ever. We tried to tip him but couldn't find him when we were done and were told it was his bed time. Bonus...........On Saturday night all the locals in the neighborhood go across the street to Don Ruty's and dance and party like it's 1999! Bastos Grill and Don Ruty's Piano bar rock!

Amazing authentic food! We searched for authentic Mexican food and this is where we ended up! The service is great and the food is even better! Great local hole in the wall!
Bastrop grill is a family-run business with a chef being a father and son and daughter helping with the wait staff excellent service and food highly recommended!
The best Mexican food I EVER had! Quaint little shop tucked away on a quiet street, the unassuming restaurant will blow you away. From delicious salsas to homemade tortillas to juicy and flavorful meats, this is a meal I'll never forget. I would travel back to Isla Mujeres just for another meal at Bastos Grill!
I very seldom go out of my way to rate anything! This place compelled me to do so. We were staying at Palace Isla Mujeres and walked to this Bastos. It was incredible.

Perfect neighborhood restaurant. Great value for the price. I had brochetta arracherra (skewers) and my husband had Mar y Tierra (land & sea). The food was absolutely fabulous. Definitely a do over.

Todo lo preparare el mismo dueño así es ya se imaginaran esta echo con amor y por su puesto muy rico sobre todo las quesadillas de witlacoche( espero así se escriba) pero el sabor es indescriptible.
