Isla Mujeres has so much to offer, over the years a selected group of investor had increase the standard and quality of the fine dining and the choices you will find are, with out doubt in the verge of excellence, but in order to combine excellent food with accurate coherence you need to know your business, the food at La Catrina is what i call honest mexican cuisine, because the owners had been brave enough to keep the tradicional identity of our meals with out sacrificing our flavours in post to satisfy the costumers tendencies to eat a pseudo mexican americanize food.
Gerardo Carsi and Alejandra Villalobos, had the vision to preserve the roots of a menu that is based on the real mexican flavours. from regional dishes like the huaraches ( very different from the papousas from honduras ) to the real mole enchiladas, or the hot spicy sauces that are the soul of a great taco,or the delicious enfrijoladas and much more, the selection of dishes is wide open and you will be the judge, be surprised by the excellent presentations and a unique taste of Mexico, and please don’t expect chille con carne of fajitas, you can get that in every corner, at La Catrina you will find Mexico and nothing more mexican that dishes made with Cactus, you will find great sea food, meals that you won’t find easily in other restaurant, the unique preparation yet genuine flavor will give you the true taste of our proud cuisine
Visit La Catrina and you won’t be disappointed.
Really cute restaurant! I had an amazing soup, which I highly recommend trying. Everyone was so nice and I got to chat with a fun couple from Denver. Overall great experience here.

I been traveling for years in Mexico and fortunately I had been welcome to the very core of my friends kitchen, I humbly had eaten at their houses, and I know the flavor of tortillas made by hand, fresh cheese, pozole from Taxco Guerrero, a very rich corn broth mixed with pork, chiles en nogada from the majestic state of Puebla, and more... I don't pretend to be an experimented connoisseur, but I know the true flavor of a street taco to a enchiladas poblanas.
I finally visit Isla Mujeres and I was a little disappointed by the trend of some restaurants that sale exactly the same dishes made for tourist till I found La Catrina ( by the way a very clever name for a Mexican restaurant represented by a skeleton woman who denied her Mexican roots by dressing in a French fashion,) and I had the best Huaraches de nopales, wich is a cactus mini pizza and please excuse my rough description of the actual meal, but the point is that it was sensational it was like been in Mexico City. I had to come back so next day I had a real deal enchiladas poblanas
I can continue with the details of the dish but it doesn't matter because they where just right.
